Assemblyman Jeff Gonzalez Statement on the Passage of AB 1412: Supporting Military Families and Students with Special Needs

SACRAMENTO – Today, Assemblyman Jeff Gonzalez (R-Indio), a 21-year U.S. Marine Corps veteran, issued the following statement on the passage of Assembly Bill 1412 on the Assembly Floor with strong bipartisan support. The legislation aims to ensure that students with exceptional needs who transfer to California from other states—particularly the children of active-duty military families—receive timely and uninterrupted access to the special education services they need:

“This is a huge milestone for military families like mine, who often have to move on short notice,” said Assemblyman Gonzalez. “Students with special needs shouldn’t have to wait weeks or months to access the services they’re entitled to. AB 1412 is about fairness, consistency, and giving every child a stable chance to succeed—no matter where they’re coming from or how often they relocate.”

AB 1412 now advances to the State Senate for further consideration.
