Assemblyman Jeff Gonzalez Statement on Vandalism at Calexico Veterans Memorial

CALEXICO – Today Assemblyman Jeff Gonzalez (R-Indio) issued the following statement regarding the recent vandalism and theft at the Calexico Veterans Memorial:

“As a 21-year Marine Corps Combat Veteran, I am deeply saddened and disappointed by the desecration of the Calexico Veterans Memorial. Our nation’s heroes deserve our utmost respect, honor and gratitude. Veterans memorials serve as a daily reminder that freedom isn’t free and that we owe an immeasurable debt to the brave men and women of our Armed Forces – a debt which can never be repaid.

I am proud to be working in partnership with the City of Calexico and Calexico Baja Runners, we are committed to replacing each plaque stolen from the memorial and ensuring the Calexico Veterans Memorial is restored stronger and better than ever.”

Calexico Mayor Diana Nuricumbo expressed the following:

“As the Mayor of Calexico and a proud U.S. Armed Forces Veteran, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Assemblyman Jeff Gonzalez, a fellow combat veteran, for his generous commitment to replacing the stolen plaques from our Veterans Memorial. Your support means a great deal to our community, and we deeply appreciate your dedication to honoring our veterans.”

Calexico City Councilman Victor Legaspi also adding:

“I would like to thank Assemblyman Jeff Gonzalez for reaching out and expressing his concern over the theft of the plaques from our Veterans Memorial. He has graciously committed to replacing them. Thank you for your continued support of our community.”
