Assemblyman Jeff Gonzalez Statement on Governor’s Executive Order Supporting Imperial County Storm Recovery

INDIO, CA — Assemblyman Jeff Gonzalez (R–Indio) issued the following statement in response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s Executive Order expanding state financial assistance to Imperial County following the August 2025 Monsoon Storms:

“I appreciate Governor Newsom’s action to provide additional support for Imperial County as our communities continue to recover from the devastating August monsoon storms,” said Assemblyman Gonzalez. “These storms caused significant damage to roads, public infrastructure, and essential services, and this assistance will help ensure our local governments have the resources they need to fully recover.”

“Imperial County residents, businesses, and first responders stepped up in the face of real hardship,” Gonzalez added. “I will continue working with state and local partners to make sure our region receives the support it deserves and that recovery efforts move forward without delay.”

BACKGROUND

Today’s Executive Order builds on the State of Emergency proclaimed in December for the August 2025 Monsoon Storms, and authorizes Cal OES to provide assistance to Imperial County, as appropriate, under the California Disaster Assistance Act and related state regulations to address validated disaster-related damages and costs beyond those incurred by the Imperial Irrigation District.
