Assemblyman Jeff Gonzalez Honors 2026 Women of Distinction and Announces Woman of the Year

BRAWLEY, CA — Assemblyman Jeff Gonzalez hosted the 2026 Women of Distinction Celebration Dinner on Friday evening, recognizing nearly 30 women from across Assembly District 36 for their leadership, volunteerism, and commitment to strengthening their communities.

The event brought together community leaders, family members, and local officials to celebrate women whose service and dedication have made a meaningful impact throughout the region — from Indio to Anza, Needles to Blythe, and across Imperial County.

“We asked members of the community to nominate women who are making a difference where they live and work,” said Gonzalez. “We honored nearly 30 women who represent the very best of public service, leadership, and community involvement in Assembly District 36. Their work strengthens our neighborhoods and improves the lives of people throughout our region.”

During the ceremony, Gonzalez announced Imperial County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Margarita “Peggy” Price as the 2026 Assembly District 36 Woman of the Year.

Supervisor Price, a longtime Imperial Valley resident, has dedicated more than 25 years to public service at the county level, including six years as Director of the Imperial County Department of Social Services. Throughout her career, she has overseen programs supporting children, families, seniors, and vulnerable residents, including child and adult protective services, foster care and adoption programs, workforce development initiatives, and housing and homelessness services.

In addition to her public service career, Price has spent decades supporting her community through organizations such as Girl Scouts, Rotary, and Soroptimist International. She continues to serve the region today as Director of Managed Care at Innercare while representing District 3 on the Imperial County Board of Supervisors.

“Supervisor Peggy Price has dedicated her life to serving others,” Gonzalez said. “Her leadership, compassion, and decades of commitment to supporting families and strengthening our community make her a truly deserving recipient of this year’s Woman of the Year honor.”

The evening also featured remarks from Rocío Vázquez Álvarez, head of the Mexican Consulate in Calexico, and Carissa Carrera, President of the Coachella Valley Teachers Association and the 2025 Assembly District 36 Woman of the Year, who announced this year’s recipient.

Gonzalez thanked all of the Women of Distinction honorees for their dedication to improving the quality of life for residents throughout Assembly District 36.

“The evening was about celebrating the incredible women who help make our communities stronger every day,” Gonzalez said. “I am grateful for their leadership, their service, and the example they set for future generations.”
